Internet Explorer 9 (IE9): Problems after Download?

If you’re a fan of Internet Explorer, you probably won’t need us to tell you that Microsoft has just put the download for Internet Explorer 9 online on one of their websites within the last few hours. We want to hear of any problems you’ve had either installing the software, or afterwards whilst using it.

If you haven’t downloaded IE9 yet, you can do so over at Microsoft’s Beauty of the Web page here. It’s only available for PC users at the moment and you may be disappointed to hear that Windows XP is not supported, only Windows 7, Vista, and Windows Server 2008 for the time being.

Aside from a completely revamped User Interface, Internet Explorer 9 will benefit from much faster overall performance thanks to a brand new javascript engine called Chakra. You’ll also get a security-enabled download manager, address bar search and many more features.

While there may not be any noticable problems with IE9 now since the download has only been up for a few hours, it is inevitable that problems and bugs will filter out in the coming weeks, so if you notice anything serious with the software that you feel we should know about, leave us a comment below.

Our only problem with Internet Explorer 9 right now, is that Mac is not supported at the moment. We’re hoping that Microsoft is planning to change this though since it’s in their best interests to make it available on all operating systems.

i put it on 4 laptops and so far no problems with anything at all including the network. as a matter of fact i'm finding that it works better then previous versions for whatever reason. it seems faster and certain bugs i seen before have dissappeared with ie9. i just hope it's permanent.

If anyone is having trouble with internet explorer 9, i might be able to help. when i first downloaded it all i got was a white screen, nothing would show. If you're having the same problem then click Start and type in: "inetcpl.cpl" then go into Advanced options and under Accelerated Graphics check the box that says "use software rendering instead of GPU rendering" and then re open ie9 and it should be sorted.

Installed IE9 on Vista 32 bit and after few hours deinstalled because it's total waste of time and nothing works.
Installed Firefox 4 and will never try and use IE9 again !

On one computer, I cannot get IE 9 to search using Google (by default). It is set as the default search provider but when I try searching, it uses no real search engine, just by internet providers search page, which doesn't even work (never gives results). On another computer it is working as it should, so I'm not sure what the problem might be. Both computers are Windows 7, 32 bit, with the service pack installed.

Oh my monkeys why did I download the update. Javascript is all jacked up. Ads on everyone's website seems to jump all over my page. Portions of the pages change when I flip between tabs, everything is so much slower. I hate hate hate ie9 and wish I wasn't too lazy to download/learn/use another browser!!!
Even the sign-in below this comment window is jacked up!!!!!

Right after downloading IE 9, any video streaming (YouTube, Hulu, etc) loads to approximately 1:20 then freezes. I tried uninstalling IE 9, tried restoring my system. Whatever it did, I am unable to return it to its original state. I am running Win7 Ultimate 64 which ran like a champ until loading IE 9…..looking forward to a solution because PC Tools Registry Mechanic and all their software can't find a thing wrong.

Where do I start? I have had it so far 2 days and this is what I have experienced. Firstly lost all my bookmarked favorites. Bloody thing freezing up, then slowing down, then turning a tab in the browser into a seperate browser window and removing it from the tab list of the previous window. Automatically closed a tab I was on after using the refresh button as webpage wouldn't load (happened a few times) In one instance I had 2 tabs open and one of them wouldn't load properly so I closed it then all the information from the… Read more »

I have downloaded IE9 2X. I have a Gateway 920 with Win 7 64 bit. The first time it totally messed up Windows Explorer. Nothing worked including the Control Panel and all desktop widgets.. I did a system restore and was back to where I started. I thought that it may be my firewall and antivirus. I disbled these and all running programs…both background and foreground. IE9 was again installed and the results were the same. I did the system restore again and have not tried downloading and installing IE9 again. Since I rarely use IE9 I will not be… Read more »

I downloaded it thinking it would run smoothly, but its definately not as good as IE8. It crashes all the time, even on my newish hp laptop. It wont let me view pictures on facebook, i cant open emails on outlook and the loading times have significantly slowed. I am really disspointed with this product, and ideas as how to make it better?

Just downloaded IE9 on Vista, when opening IE window set to Google homepage I get a white screen with the black text of "It Works!" in the upper left corner. That's it for the entire window below the toolbars; nothing clickable, no other text or images. I also cannot load Google by doing a search on Bing or Yahoo! & clicking the link. And I cannot type the URL into the address bar to get to Google. YouTube also does not load – same white screen. Ticked enough to go back to IE 8, just for the inconvenience.

Thus far, all downloading IE9 has done is give me a headache. I have a paper due in less than four hours, and get anything within my schools page to work. I am ready to scream! This is ridiculous. I hate it, and I want to go back to IE8, but I'm not computer savvy and I don't know how. Someone please help me. I have windows vista.

Main problem – total freeze that lasts for one minutes when opening for first time, or opening a new window or when a pop up opens. I followed suggesttions: turned off addons, ran FixIt, clicked on "Reset" in Advanced options, Made sure all possible addons were the lastest versions, Turned off anit-virus (only for test). Nothing worked. I did find that once a window is open (after waiting a minute for it to unfreeze) everything works relatively fast as long as I stay in that one window. Worse problem – after install I find that IE9 does not show in… Read more »

I tried the beta, the release candidate – and had no trouble except that links refused to open from other sites, and little quirky, irksome annoyances. I went back to IE8 and all was well. Never one to leave well enough alone, I figured the final IE9 would have those bugs out so, after some resistance, I loaded it up. Almost trashed my system trying to get it out again – still had the same problems. In the end I had to use another computer to download IE9 onto a thumb drive, and re installed it on my computer. uninstalled it already, because when I click on a link to open what I assume is a flash box, nothing happens. Why can't they get their act together and not release something until it is ready? The marketing people must be running amok.

After I installed IE9, I have been noticing that the home page is taking up to ONE MINUTE to load on start up,
and this problem is also affecting my AOL software as well, as AOL uses the IE settings. I had no choice but to uninstall IE9, and roll back to IE8 for the time being, and all is normal once again. I intend to reinstall IE9 in the near future, and hopefully by then the remaining glitches will be resolved.

I installed IE9 in both beta & RC form, then the final release.
Discovered it was reluctant to respond to single clicks, having to click twice many times.
Also really missed the search box.
Finally reverted back to IE8 & Firefox, all fine now, will not try it again.

I like how minimalistic they made it, but it is FULL of bugs! on google maps, right clicking brings up the normal context menu over googles menu. You cant post ads on kijiji because it doesn't save what you write in the 'description' box. Several websites just outright crash. Also, the favorites on the right hand side, with no option to move the button to the left is really annoying… hopefully I can get used to that one. IE9 RTM keeps crashing. I could not open gmail, Amazon, eBay… just to name a few. Some pages open washed out white with nothing displayed. Lots of crashes that forced me to uninstall it from my rig and get back to IE8. I don’t believe how Microsoft releases this product with such obvious bugs.

Haven't been using IE8 as it wouldn't open links, tried IE9 after suggestion from friend that it was better – well it is because it will open new tabs when I click on links,

I installed Explorer 9 final release on a Windows 7 operating system yesterday. The first problem was that no video content would work. Box came up saying I needed Adobe Flash Player which I already had. I deleted the old copy and downloaded the latest copy. This did not fix the problem. Running Win 7 Ultimate 64 bit, just installed yesterday and all updates installed successfully. Installed IE9 after reading one mag's review. BIGGGG disappointment. IE9 sucks. Installing IE9 destroyed my Win7 installation. It affected Live Mail also. Since installing IE9, both my internet browsing and Live Mail suffer the following symptoms: 1) No font color … every font is black 2) No background color … every background is white 3) No background images 4) Other enhanced things that worked in IE8 don't work … acts wierd instead 5) EXTREMELY difficult to "simply" select an entry in address/search input box, etc. (Includes ignoring clicks to right of text we typically do to position cursor at end of text or to select that box of text… Read more »

Installed ie9 night before last. Crashed to blue screen during installation. On restart ie9 appeared to be working. Had two blue screen crashes after that. Last night, had a message in the bottom right corner of the screen "Windows 7, Build XXXXX,Not a valid copy of windows". Interesting, since it was a valid copy when I bought the computer from HP last May. Also, could not connect with Bluetooth to synch my Palm. Uninstalled ie9, went back to ie8, and everything works fine again.

Contacts in Google's Gmail do not format correctly, rendering the page basically useless.

Also getting javascript errors which I don't have on other browsers.

The HTML5 test site at html5test.com reports a browser score of 130 points, as opposed to Chrome's 288 for compatibility. Firefox is 155, Safari 228, Opera 244. The higher the score the better for HTML5 rendering support.

Do not like the new geopgraphical changes on some on the now 'upside down' modifications on some of the menus, pop-ups….

I've noticed problems within 10 minutes … the first thing I tried was the "Beauty of the web" thing as soon as it opens for the first time. Crashed while playing with the music app. Also Twitter.com had problems.
