Instagram update adds online status dots for DM

Instagram has just rolled out an interesting new update for the app, which will now allow users to see whenever a friend is online, thus giving them more opportunities to direct message each other.

From now on whenever you see friends online, a green dot will be displayed by their name and also within the Direct Inbox part of the app.

Instagram has said that users will only see the green dot displayed on people who are listed as friends who follow you, or from users who you have talked to before on Direct.

Perhaps most importantly, Instagram has stressed that the new feature is easily turned off should you not want to be bothered by it or simply don’t want that kind of extra interaction during your daily browse.

This feature is available to use right now.

What are your thoughts on the new Instagram changes?
