At the start of the year we assumed the Galaxy S4 was going to feature an all-new design, but this did not happen. Understandably, fans were a little upset, but they got over the similar design to the S3, as the hardware was much improved. However, we’re now being told of the innovate Samsung Galaxy S5 design, because it could come with an Aluminum unibody.
This is where we think the Samsung Galaxy S5 design could be questionable, because how can it be innovative, if there are already other smartphones on the market with a similar design?
We do find it strange that Android users throw the word innovative around a little too easily. We can understand why they would say that in some cases, but when Samsung could copy what the HTC One and the Sony Xperia Z already has, it is strange.
Okay, it will be a big design departure for Samsung to go with a Unibody, especially when you consider all the flack they have endured over the years for their cheap, plastic design, although we have to say it’s not as bad as people make out.
Having said that, the Galaxy S5 could still come with an innovative design if they incorporate a metal construction, and a flexible display to wrap around the edges, with the use of new glass/plastic technology, although LG might beat them to it first.
Personally all rumors that Samsung will innovate with the design of the S5 are being blown out of proportion, because we just see it as a new design direction. Having said that, it will need to be something special, especially when you consider the likes of HTC and Sony have already upped their game, and LG will not be far behind.
The Galaxy range is starting to look dated with the material used, and so Samsung will now need to step up, although we don’t expect this to happen with the Galaxy Note 3, so the S5 is the next likely candidate to get an all-new design.
