There’s nothing like a bit of healthy competition to help generate sales, as well as giving consumers a bargain at the same time. This is just what is happening in India, as Apple and Samsung are embroiled in a price war that has seen huge discounts on the iPhone and several Galaxy handsets.
Apple India has been offering some great deals of late, which could be a reason why the iPhone has helped their profit increase over the past year. For instance, you can pick yourself up an iPhone 4 if you are a trade-in customer for 7,000 rupees ($128), which is more than enough to go towards your next iPhone purchase.
That’s not all; Apple India has also introduced a payment plan, which brings the iPhone to a greater audience, as well as further increasing profits. However, these measures are still a long way off helping to increase the iPhones market share in India, as the iPhone currently has a market share of 15.6 percent, while the range of Samsung handsets holds 38.8 percent.
With this going on, we have to wonder if this is the build up to India’s budget iPhone, which is expected later this year, although we’ve heard rumors of a so-called low-cost iPhone before? It’s clear that Apple India is trying to build a huge presence for their smartphone in the country, and while the iPhone 4 is considered the cheaper iPhone, it’s not a fully-fledged one.
While there is a huge need for a budget iPhone in India and other parts of the world, one has to wonder if Apple could ever beat Samsung in this area, as they seem to have all the bases covered? A lot of hype has been made about this phone, as well as several concepts, but if Apple can truly call this a budget iPhone, then it needs to be much lower than the rumored $300 or equivalent price tag.
