The Indian government have plans to unleash an iPad-like laptop with a touch-screen device next year, and what will shock you most will be the price tag.
The device will have no need for hard drives, as it will run purely on memory cards just like a mobile phone, and It will come with the Linux operating system. There is also no need for charging the device and having it plugged in as it runs on solar power, according to various reports.
No manufacturer has yet been signed to the project, which is just in its prototype form for the time being. But the Human Resource Development Minister Kapil Sibal said that a manufacturer is currently work-in-progress.
The touch-screen laptop has been developed by India’s top IT colleges collectively, and costs a fraction of the price compared to that of Apple’s iPad costing $499.
Now for the shocking part. The device is set to cost only $35, with eventual prices coming down to $20 and then to just $10.
