There is a huge majority of people who use their phone in their car (legally of course) one because they use them in conjunction with a Bluetooth system, two because they connect it up to their car to listen to music, and thirdly as a GPS. It is the latter that we tend to use ours more for because it is a better option than those built-into cars, and saves purchasing a stand-alone sat-nav.
There are times when we have been on a journey but have not had a holder for our iPhone 5, so we thought it was the perfect time to accept the offer to review the iBOLT iProDock 5. However, we also like to add towards the bottom of this review the Tree Frog Anti-Slip Pad, as these are two decent in-car iPhone 5, 4S/4 holder options.
Looking at all the parts to the dock you will see there are several accessories, but these will be needed depending on what version of iPhone you have because you can charge your iPhone while in the dock.
You will notice the suction holder in the image below, this allows it to be secured safely on your windscreen, much like you see with the latest GPS systems. It is this added feature that we liked the idea of because it can swivel from portrait to landscape, perfect when using turn-by-turn navigation.
In a close up of the iBOLT iProDock cradle up close you will notice a button, this is what allows you to adjust the size, which is needed because of the size difference between the iPhone 4/4S and iPhone 5. The grips are made of rubber so it does not leave any marks on your iPhone, but we all know how fragile the black is on the iPhone 5.
Having already explained that there are several accessories for this holder, we thought another close up image was needed.
However, we understand that what you really want to see is what the iBOLT iProDock for iPhone 5 looks like once a handset is placed in it. We can tell you that it fitted rather well and there were no fears of it becoming dislodged, which would have been a right pain while using it to reach our chosen destination.
What we did love about this dock is how it works with most cases, because a majority of us have a case on our iPhone to stop the scratching issue. Being able to insert your phone into the dock with one-hand does save you the hassle of trying to stretch over.
If you do not want to fix this onto your dash, then you can use the included adhesive plate, allowing you to place it onto your dash instead.
Speaking of dash, if you have no need for such a dock but like the idea if placing your iPhone or any other smartphone on your dash, then the Tree Frog Anti-Slip Pad allows you to do so without the fear of your handset sliding off and falling in your foot well, under your seat, or worse, out of the car.
The Tree Frog Dashboard Pad feels horrible and sticky to touch, but it is this special silicone that allows for your smartphone, keys or even sunglasses to stay in place. We tried all of the above and it really does work. You would assume it would leave a horrible residue on your phone or sunglasses, but it does not.
Another great thing about this ingenious product is that it can be removed and replaced as many times as you like, and will even follow the contour of your car dash.
The iBOLT iProDock costs £29.99 and can be purchased from Mobile Fun UK and the Tree Frog Dashboard Pad can also be bought from Mobile Fun UK for £6.99, which we think is a good price for its practicality. You can also find a selection of other car holders here.
