Ice Cream Sandwich confirmed for UK Galaxy S II, no ETA or S1 news

Since Google first announced its next Android operating system, owners of many high spec handsets have been left to wonder if they will get in on the action. HTC recently announced its first batch of handsets to be getting the updated OS. Now today we can tell you that Ice Cream Sandwich has been confirmed for the Samsung Galaxy S II, but there is not ETA of its availability though.

It’s hardly surprising that Samsung’s supercharged device would be getting the update, but with the Android platform you never know until it has been made official. The Verge are reporting that Samsung have taken to its Twitter page to give owners the good news, and follows the news we gave you last month about Samsung’s Italian website.

The company confirmed the handset would be getting Android 4.0, and Samsung’s UK plans normally fall in line with the rest of the Euro zone. This will mean the update being released simultaneously across the regions give or take a day or two. Owners of the US versions of the device may have to be a little more wary about the update though.

Updates from Samsung in this market have been decidedly patchy in the past, with inconsistent updates often coming a while after other areas see the new software. But it is another handset that has been added to the growing list of ICS tasting devices though.

Unfortunately there is no news on whether the original Samsung Galaxy S will be receiving the update anytime in the future. An update is not being ruled out by Samsung though so hopefully the millions of owners won’t be left disappointed.
Are you hoping for ICS on your Android device?
