Whenever you hear the word Hyundai you automatically assume that we were talking about a vehicle, but you would be wrong this time because we are reporting news about the new Hyundai T7, which shows that the company has now joined the masses and entered into the very lucrative tablet market — if they get the formula right of course.
While it’s nice to see another sub-$200 Android tablet hit the market there are one or two issues that we have with the T7 tablet. This first is that this 7-inch tablet looks a lot like an overgrown Samsung Galaxy S3, and the second is that it’s clear that the Nexus 7 is its main rival, even tough it lacks some of the features of the Asus device.
Sticking with the Galaxy S3 theme the Hyundai T7 uses the same Samsung Exynos 4412 chipset, which we happen to know is more than up to the task. Looking at the specs the processor has a clock speed of 1.4GHz, there’s also 1GB or RAM and although we are little disappointed with the 8GB of built-in storage and the 2-megapixel camera, there is microSD card support.
Knowning that the Hyundai T7 is tens of dollars cheaper than the Nexus 7 is a bit of a bonus, that and the fact that the processor is also more powerful than the Tegra 3 in the Nexus 7, although this issue will be addressed in the 2nd-gen model.
Should you buy the Hyundai T7? Personally we would give this one a miss because while it may be cheap, the build quality and after market support is not going to be what you would expect from a tablet. The main reason for this is because Hyundai is new to the mobile world and could either be trying to maker a quick buck or is getting their feet wet ready for a larger onslaught.
