For those of you who are interested in checking out Hulu Plus on the PS3, a fair few of you might still be in the dark about the actual plans that Hulu have for Hulu Plus, since it has not been made clear if users have to have a PSN+ subscription to access the service. Good job Hulu have released an official statement explaining the deal.
We first revealed the plans for Hulu coming to PS3 at the end of last month, where we also stated that it would only be made available to PSN+ subscribers.
But since then, Hulu Plus has been officially announced on June 29. But with it came more speculation regarding PlayStation Plus. The source code was dug up, and read: “The instructions below will help you install Hulu Plus on your PS3. Note: you must be a subscriber of the PlayStation Plus Network,” which would have meant that you would have to pay $49.99 per year for PSN+, as well as $9.99 per month for Hulu Plus.
Understandably, this annoyed a lot of Hulu wannabe subscribers. But it seems that whoever dug up the code got a little ahead of themselves, and should have waited for the official word from Hulu. In a statement that was released today, they stated:
“With the launch of Hulu Plus there have been many rumors started and we are trying our best to remedy the situation. Specifically to your question, the Playstation Plus service is only a requirement during the preview period.
Once the preview period ends you should be able to download the Hulu Plus app but that will still require the Hulu Plus subscription.
Right now we are limiting the number of users but Hulu Plus will be launching to the public very soon so stay tuned!”
There we have it. So Hulu Plus will be avaliable to all regardless of having PSN+ or not, but for the time being, you will need a PSN+ subscription to check out the service. Good job that is all cleared up. Hulu Plus and PS3 users can finally go to sleep at night now, rest assured that $49.99 is still in their bank accounts.
