Huge PS3 BF3 update targets MAV, USAS-12 users

Attention all Battlefield 3 players now, as DICE has just detailed the next major patch update that will land on the game soon. It’s coming to PS3 first next week and there are some huge changes to vehicle gameplay, which will probably change the way you play the game from now on.

If you are a regular player, you’ll definitely need to read through all the list of changes, as there is a lot to get through to say the least. DICE has seemingly tweaked every aspect of multiplayer, from making Stinger missiles a one hit disable to all aircraft right down to giving the AAV AMTRAC transport vehicle some brand new functionality.

One of the most pleasing aspects from the update though, from our opinion anyway is that players will no longer be able to camp spawn at Operation Metro and use the MAV for multiple roadkills. DICE has confirmed that they have tweaked the MAV so that 1) it will now explode upon impact of a solider and 2) it can no longer be used as a transportation device, so those annoying boosters on Tehran Highway and Strike at Karkand now have to play normally like the rest of us.

As for another major change, you’ll be pleased to hear that the dreaded USAS-12 + frag combo has been tweaked as well. No longer will players be able to fire off rounds from such a long distance, as DICE has tweaked the weapon so that it now has a reduced rate of fire when paired with frag rounds – the same goes for the MK3A1 jackhammer as well.

There looks to be changes to every single weapon, DICE has really been working hard at this it seems so well done to them. Helicopter pilots will definitely want to take a look at the changes in detail, as there’s some important little tweaks that will change gameplay up considerably – heat seeker missiles will now lock on more quickly against other choppers, and guided rockets will now be more accurate as well.

The patch is coming to PS3 users first, starting from tomorrow on Tuesday 27th March. Unfortunately, there doesn’t appear to be any indication from DICE on when this will be hitting the Xbox 360 or PC platforms. Considering that the PC version is thought to be the ‘lead’ platform, PC players may be entitled to feel a little hard done by here.

We can’t wait to try out all the changes tomorrow though, so look forward to further feedback after the update is released later on in the week. What change from the patch notes stands out for you the most?
