Huge Akimbo nerf coming to MW3 tonight, fixes FMG advantage

Recently title update 1.08 was rolled out to Modern Warfare 3, you can see a full list of changes here, but what was most noticeable was the fact that the Striker had been biffed whilst all other shutguns were buffed. Today Infinity Ward’s community manager has promised a new update which should arrive tonight.

Robert Bowling has confirmed that the fire rate of all Akimbo weapons will soon be decreased by 50%, this change will arrive via a hotfix sometime this evening. You can see the tweet which revealed this news below, as you can see it seems to suggested that the Internet community are the reason such a change has been made.

Expect a 50% decrease to the fire rate of all Akimbo weapons in #MW3. We’re doing a hotfix tonight to properly nerf them. Thanks Internet!

We headed over to the Modern Warfare 3 forums to see if we could find the thread which brought on this change, it turns out that Akimbo guns have been a hot topic for a while now (check out this link), especially FMGs, many say that Akimbo guns are hugely unbalanced and too effective – with 72 hours of MW3 behind me I agree with this!

The fact that all Akimbo weapons will now have a 50% decrease in fire rate should hugely change how people configure their classes and thus change gameplay massively. Below we have embedded a video titled “MW3 | Akimbo FMG’s = Easy mode”, as you can see using two FMGs was far too powerful, not to mention that there’s barely any recoil!

We love the fact that Infinity Ward are listening to consumer feedback and making changes accordingly. What else would you like to see changed? Are you happy with the Akimbo nerf? Let us know in the comments section below.
