HTC Plan For 2011: Ship 60 million Handsets

HTC have seen a dramatic increase in sales since the birth of the Androird OS, and it’s not about to stop. The HTC Desire, Droid Incredible and Nexus One have paved the way for smartphones of the future and have set a new standard. HTC are taking this in to account and say they expect to ship 60 million handsets next year, a report reveals.

The projected figure is three times that of what they sold this year (2010). The Taiwanese manufacturer informed these figures to the executives of over 100 parts suppliers, and warned them that they should be prepared for this mass increase as they would need the required parts to build and ship the devices for 2011.

IntoMobile suggest that HTC have made significant progress since 2009, to which they shipped a total of 11.7 handsets for that year, and approximately 20 million in 2010. 6.4 million handsets were sold in Q3 2010 alone.

One likely contributor to these sales could be the addition of Windows Phone 7. HTC have sold the majority of their devices based upon Google’s Android operating system that has helped matters greatly.

Windows Phone 7 can only add to the figures from 2010. Potentially problems with WP7 could mean the figures could not be what HTC are projecting, but we have got to remember that Windows Phone 7 is a brand new system to which can only get better. And then there is the HTC 7 Pro to look forward too.
