HTC EVO 4G: Manual Gingerbread update – download before release

We gave some very good news yesterday to HTC EVO 4G owners, as we informed you that Sprint were planning to roll out the official update to Android Gingerbread very shortly. Well we now have confirmation that the update will also be available manually too.

For those that are unaware, the update will be landing via OTA on HTC EVO 4G handsets on Monday 6th June. Aside from the interface changes that Gingerbread brings, the update will also address Gmail and SMS issues that some of you have been having.

More importantly though, for EVO 4G owners that simply can’t wait until the 6th June to arrive, you can now download the Gingerbread manually, as reported from PhoneScoop. And the process couldn’t be simpler enough. Go to your phone settings and select manual update, and if you’re lucky – you may find that the Gingerbread update is already available to install, since it’s now June 3rd in some regions.

Try it out now and see if it works for you. For those of you who are not too bothered about this, expect an official notification from Sprint sometime on Monday. It’s nice to see the carrier take care of their old customers before they focus on launching handsets like the EVO 3D on June 24th. Let us know your thoughts on this.
