Honeywell Lyric thermostat vs. Nest price, design and features

The way in which we approach the humble room thermostat for the home has changed significantly because they no longer turn the heating on or off depending on the temperature, as they now do so much more. Earlier this year it was all about Nest and Tado, and now a new smart thermostat has joined the fray.

Honeywell is an established company within the heating business, and one would presume they would have so much more to bring to the table, but we have seen in the past that given enough money and a talented design department, years of experience in the heating industry count for nothing.

We presume that this was one of the reasons why Honeywell wanted to prove this wrong and show these wannabes how things are done, and so have recently launched the Lyric.

Because Nest is more known than Tado due to Google’s bigger pockets, even though we personally think the Tado Thermostat and app is a far better system, it seems more obvious to have a Honeywell Lyric thermostat vs. Nest, and this is just what SlashGear has done.

Honeywell Lyric thermostat vs. Nest

As you would expect, SlashGear has looked into many aspects of these two devices, which by the way look very similar in design, although they do have varying features.

Lyric seems more like Tado in the way that it automatically knows when you are in the house or away, and adjusts the heating accordingly. Nest approaches things differently where it has a sensor to see when people are at home or not, so is unable to track you, and also learns your habits.

What we love about Tado is how it knows how far you are from home, and gradually brings the temperature of the heating up the closer you get from home, something that Lyric also has. We are not certain if Lyric is as good as this or not, but it is clear Nest lacks this feature and so loses points for it.

For a greater insight into both we ask that you visit our source, although we will tell you that the Honeywell Lyric price is $279 compared to $249 for the Nest. It’s worth noting that the Honeywell Lyric is supported by Apple’s upcoming HomeKit app coming to iOS 8.
