Sanrio, who is celebrating their 50th anniversary thought that it was only right to bring the 35-year-old Hello Kitty brand to the small vehicle — but is this one merchandising branding too far? Hello Kitty has taken over a number of products in its long 35 years existence, such as MP3 Players, Cameras, Speakers, and even Wine.
According to Suzanne Ashe at CNET’s Cartech blog, Sanriowill charge from $550 to $1,700 for these wraps that are applied to the vehicle. You certainly have to be a fan of Hello Kitty to spoil the paint job on your small economical vehicle.
You have to wonder if this is taking branding too far? There could become a time when all your favorite characters, such as Betty Boo, The Simpsons, SpongeBob and others could all appear as a huge decal to put on the outside of a range of Smart cars.
