Hellgate: London relaunching as free-to-play MMO game

We have some rather interesting news now for those of you that may be familiar with Flagship Studios’ disastrous 2007 game Hellgate: London, as we’ve recently discovered that the troubled MMO is in fact re-launching in North America as a free-to-play title.

According to Earnest Cavalli at, Hellgate: London was a highly anticipated game before it was released back in 2007, but the launch didn’t go quite as planned and the developer Flagship Studios was unfortunately forced to declare bankruptcy in 2008.

The publisher Namco Bandai did attempt to provide support for the game’s existing player base, but the damage was already done and its US servers were eventually taken offline in January 2009. Korean publisher HanbitSoft has since acquired the rights to publish the game in North America.

As a recent press release states, the Hellgate: London game will be re-launching as a free-to-play MMO game in closed beta from June 3rd until June 5th. The game’s release will then come later in the year. You can learn more about the upcoming game via its Facebook page here.

Do you think the Hellgate: London game will be more successful this time around, or will it suffer the same fate as before?
