Guitar Hero Live backwards compatibility is a no go

We know that Rock Band 4 is coming this year, and now we know that Activision will once again bring a competing game. Guitar Hero Live has just been announced, but unfortunately it will require all buyers to purchase new instruments.

The big attraction with Rock Band 4, is that it is going to support your existing gear, saving gamers hundreds of dollars in the process.

Now, we can categorically confirm that Guitar Hero Live backwards compatibility will not exist – i.e, your old plastic guitars will not work and you’ll simply have to buy a new one.

The Guitar Hero Live price has already been revealed to be $90, which will include a copy of the game on either PS3, PS4, Xbox 360, Xbox One or Wii U – and a brand new guitar.

The guitar itself features a brand new design, removing the previous ‘rainbow buttons’ in favor of six buttons in a 3×2 grid that looks a lot more realistic.

Furthermore, Activision states that advanced players will now be able to form chord shapes with these buttons and note combinations, increasing the realism notch even more.

The game is out this Fall and more will be revealed at E3 in June. For now, watch the reveal trailer below and give us your reaction to the fact that Guitar Hero Live won’t support your old gear.

Is this a deal breaker for you, or will you still pay $90 for the game?
