GTA V PC beta for desperate gamers

GTA V launched on September 17 2013, but over half a year later Rockstar has still not confirmed a GTA V PC release date. Gamers are starting to become desperate as you can imagine and this week we’ve seen the latest wave of users fall for another GTA V PC beta scam online.

It’s not the first time that we have seen similar instances of a GTA V PC beta attempting to fool users and we are willing to bet it won’t be the last time either.

It doesn’t get prettier though and it’s obviously not nice to end up with a PC full of viruses. That is what is happening to some though, even if they themselves were foolish enough to fall for such deceiving tactics.

The latest scam involves a GTA V PC download client, which attempts to offer a code apparently handed out by Rockstar. It’s labelled as “Your promo code in app rockstargames.com,” but actually it contains a nasty backdoor file within instead known as BKDR_ANDROM.ATG.

Security experts over at Trend Micro have already done some research on this, with affected computers open to receive commands from a remote malicious user, which obviously doesn’t bode well for your computer.

If you have been duped by this latest scam, we strongly recommend you read through this help guide set up by Trend Micro, which will show you how to remove any nasty files you may have picked up.

Are some of you really that desperate for GTA V on PC to fall for traps like this? Let us know if you have seen similar activity online that we should know about.
