GTA V business opportunities with PC release, DLC

It’s fair to say that a large portion of the gaming community is pumped up about the upcoming release of GTA V, which we now know will hit stores sometime in Spring 2013. However, Rockstar has only committed themselves to the Xbox 360 and PS3 versions of the game, with no official information as of yet on whether GTA 5 will have a PC release.

Considering that GTA IV was available on the PC, it’s safe to assume that it will happen – eventually. At the moment though it looks like a foregone conclusion that the PC as well as the Nintendo Wii U will not be getting GTA 5 any time soon and certainly not getting it at the same time as Xbox 360 and PS3 users.

Rockstar are a developer known to stay silent at all costs if required and it looks like PC users are not going to get the confirmation they want to hear from Rockstar before the end of the year. In a recent interview, Rockstar’s Dan Houser was pressed specifically on the possibility of GTA V releasing on PC, only to give the rather worrying reply of that ‘its up for consideration’ – nothing more.

There were no hints on if it may come after PS3 or Xbox 360 and the message above may even imply that GTA 5 may not get a release on the PC regardless. If they are considering it, they could well decide to can it completely and that goes for any future Wii U version as well.

No GTA 5 on PC would be a huge blow though, to the millions of PC owners who prefer to play their Grand Theft Auto games with the added ability to create custom content via mod tools. It’s no secret that mod use on GTA games are a huge side earner for Rockstar, so they would be crazy to miss out on a PC release this time for GTA 5 – not to mention the inevitable backlash that would happen if they didn’t.

Another big talking point is Dan Houser’s statement on the company looking for a business opportunity as well. We hope that this doesn’t imply that GTA V DLC episodes are going to be auctioned off again to the highest bidder, as we really don’t want to see the situation occur again, where Microsoft paid for the content to appear on Xbox 360 first ahead of other platforms.

Forgetting DLC for a moment though and concentrating on the PC debate – do you think it is inevitable that a PC version of GTA V will release eventually? As a PC user, how long are you prepared to wait until you start getting angry?
