Gran Turismo 7 before Driveclub on PS4

If you were hoping to see Driveclub come out over the next few months, we can confirm that this won’t be happening sadly. The Driveclub PS4 release date has hit another roadblock in the cloud with a Sony exec now revealing publicly that Driveclub has ‘gone back to the drawing board’.

Considering that the game was originally meant to release as a PS4 launch title, this is obviously causing quite a stir on social media spaces from those who were expecting the game to come out this Spring or at the latest – during E3 2014 in June.

However that won’t happen anymore as it now looks clear that Driveclub needs further fine tuning. You may have heard the news already, but in case you haven’t here is the crucial statement from Sony Worldwide Studios executive Scott Rohde when speaking to IGN recently:

“So, I think that at PlayStation, perhaps more than at other places, we’re willing to kinda eat that [cost], and go back to the drawing board and make sure the game is great before we ship it. And that’s what’s going on right now with that game”

Rohde went on to say that by releasing the game early, they would be doing ‘everyone a disservice’ so they will now take the time to get it right.

This has prompted immediate response from the community as you can imagine, most notably from those who are now wondering if Gran Turismo 7 could now release before Driveclub in 2014.

We remind you of a quote from the man himself Kazunori Yamauchi in 2013, when speaking to Top Gear about the likelihood of Gran Turismo 7 coming out for the PS4:

“We don’t want to take too long on Gran Turismo 7, best-case scenario? Next year.”

That is a black and white confirmation that Gran Turismo 7 will release in 2014 on PS4. With Driveclub now looking less likely to release this year, we could really be looking at Polyphony Digital finally giving PS4 owners their racing fix instead of Evolution Studios.

What will happen to Driveclub now?

It looks like some of you agree with our theory too that Gran Turismo 7 will be first out to release on PS4 rather than Driveclub. We’ve included some of the reaction to this topic from Twitter for you to take a look at:

Going ‘back to the drawing board’ seems like a lot of work still has to be completed on Driveclub. We all don’t want to see a rushed release, so a 2015 release date isn’t exactly the end of the world.

However we do need a racing game on PS4 so we hope that Polyphony Digital are planning a big announcement at E3 2014 in June to lift everyone’s spirits.

Give us your reaction to the Driveclub crisis and whether you also think that Gran Turismo 7 will release before Driveclub – would you prefer to see Gran Turismo 7 on PS4 anyway?
