Gran Turismo 5: Performance and Storage Problems Expected

When it comes to hard drive installs on the PS3, this can often cause an issue for gamers, as freeing up valuable storage space can become a pain. The reason why I decided to mention this issue again is because Gran Turismo 5 offers an optional hard drive install.

Just Push Start reports that Kazunori Yamauchi, announced that the PlayStation 3 racing sim will require 10GB of free storage for install or 256MB to just run the game — although there is a downside to that.

For those who are unable to fully install Gran Turismo 5 to the hard drive will not get the full benefit from the game, as performance and overall smoothness will be compromised. My advice it to have a look around and start deleting anything that is not longer needed.

We just hope the game is worth the wait, but looking at all the recent trailers like Kart mode, the game just looks something else. What will you sacrifice on your hard drive for the 10GB install?

Yeah this no problem for me as well since i have a 320gb hdd in my PS3. I say just get a new hard drive from newegg for your ps3. Make sure to back all your files up on an external first though. Save.files will have to be saved manually one by one. Also, some saved files cannot be transferred like street fighter so you will lose them.

What's the article on about. Clearly trying to smear the PS3. He clearly states at the start that this is optional. Loads of games already have this if you want the load time to be quicker.

@ Palle – Yes you can, they do not read NTFS file structures though, so format to FAT or FAT32. (I currently have a 750g Seagate external).

@ Peter – This isn't a 360 you know, you can buy a new HDD for pennies, and it takes all of 5 minutes to swap the part.

~$40 for a 160g drive
~80-100 for a 320g drive
~130-200 for a 500g drive

I've got a 320g in my PS3 right now (launch 60g) it's about half full. 10g investment in GT5 is well, well worth it.

I got about 30GB left so I’m good. I could use a clearout and I might delete some of the old 09 games. My GT5 prologue data can go, maybe Fifa 09 and probably 10 once 11 comes out.

Does anyone know if it’s possible to use an external hard drive on PS3?
