Google Selling Nexus One: Now an Online Retailer

Yesterday, Google held their Android event and it came as no surprise that the search engine giant chose that moment to announce the release of the Nexus One, the first Google-branded phone. Another first is the fact that you can purchase the latest smartphone direct, now making Google an online retailer.

The Nexus One is manufactured by HTC with Google supplying the Android 2.1 OS as well as a huge amount of input throughout the development stages. Google will also begin to offer other devices from their website, such as those made from Motorola, who make the Droid, another Android based cell phone.

This is seen as a great move from the California-based company, as Business Week believes that they will be able to forge a closer relationship with the consumer. This could help pave the way for better services and products in the future; this is according to analyst, Will Stofega.

This could also been seen as a move by Google to help with their development with smartphone applications, which will help them in their constant battle to catch up to the App Store. However, this will take some doing as Apple has just passed the 3 billion download mark on its app store.

If you missed the big unveiling of the Google Nexus One yesterday, then watch this video demo that we posted yesterday.
