Google plus one, that’s you – answers Facebook fatigue

We are loving Google Plus and think it is a breath of fresh air in today’s Facebook / Twitter dominated social media world, a recent article posted on Mashable looks into why Google chose such a strange name for its social network and also how Facebook fatigue could help out the launch of a competitor.

Google’s Bradley Horowitz says that Google + carries a huge meaning, it is in essence Google Plus you, it follows you around the web and on mobile to enable you to easily share things with your fellow Google Plus users and also allows you to easily see what others have shared, this means that Google search algorithms will become less important whilst recommendations from your friends, acquaintances and colleagues will take over.

Google Plus ties into Google search so that +1’d articles etc show up in search results, this adds a layer of humanity to searches, which will in the long run shape up the web in a massive way without being too intrusive.

One expert recently said “users won’t have the option of not using Google Plus”, which suggests that integration and ease of use will be paramount in the Google Plus’ success. Currently people click ‘Like’ to share web content with friends on Facebook, but some people think that Facebook is too demanding in terms of time and to needy in terms of information.

For some Facebook is the perfect social networking service, however the more you use it and the more friends you get the more cluttered it gets. Currently there is no way to filter content to certain people, which in turn means that everyone broadcasts everything to everyone, Google + allows you to share content with certain circles, which means that if you want to talk business and share a ‘geeky’ link with business contacts etc your friends don’t see a link that they have no interest in. This works both ways, so friends who share no major interests with you will not necessarily share uninteresting things with you, for example you could set up a circle of friends who you know are football fans, then any football-related shares could be directed at them, rather than everyone who is your friend on Facebook.

It is still early days for Google Plus, but already we are coming to terms with the new way of social networking, we like the way that shares can be directed at certain groups of friends (circles) and think that the integration into Google search will change the web massively in the future, are you as optimistic?
