The set top box streaming market is set to really hot up this year with a new Apple TV reportedly on the way and with Amazon recently announcing their Fire TV. The big question now will be if Google are going to respond by plotting something new, perhaps Android TV?
A new multimedia interface has leaked online and The Verge has reported this to be an upcoming service dubbed Android TV. This new platform would provide access to movies and TV shows, as well as giving access to a range of the best Android apps. Google already has their Chromecast streaming device out on the market, which enables users to wirelessly mirror their Android device to an HDTV.
This potential Android TV would probably come packed with this feature too, very much like how Apple TV allows iPhone and iPad users AirPlay their content. This device would also provide stiff competition to their rivals, especially if they can make the set top box cheaper to purchase than the competition.
If Android TV also supported games as well as their biggest Google apps it could be a lethal feature, as Apple TV does not currently offer this. There has been rumors that the 4th generation model will; however if Google can get Android TV on to the market first with game support then it could have a huge boost effect that will deal early damage to the new Apple TV and Amazon Fire TV.
Which streaming device will you be siding with this year and why?
