Google Places Dashboard categories receives upgrade

Google has given the Places Dashboard a huge upgrade by offering over 1,000 new categories and what’s more, these are all translated into other languages, so not just support for English. It’s worth noting that this is solely for Google’s Places for Business, and so will now make it much easier to locate a business in other countries.

Before this update to the Google Places Dashboard, most of the categories were for U.S. businesses, which certainly limited things, and so this is one of the more welcome updates. You might be wondering why Google hadn’t already offered such a feature, and they have been on their support page to answer just this question.

They said that while it would have been nice to offer this feature so early on, being able to categorize international businesses was very complicated because searching in a different language to the one where the actual business is has numerous issues when it came to translating them.

However, the Google team has been working hard to resolve this issue and it seems as though they have finally achieved their goal.

This latest change to the Google Places Dashboard has already began to roll out and we’d love to know what users think of the ability to search for international businesses?
