Google+ iPhone app delay: Is there an Apple strategy?

There has been a social frenzy over the past few days, as people have been trying their best to get a Google+ invite. For those who do not know, this is Google’s latest attempt to compete with Facebook, and by what we know so far they are not doing a bad job. Anyway, for those who now have a Google+ aka Plus account you would have noticed two things; the first is that there is an Android app, then second is that there is an iPhone app delay.

There could be a number of reasons for this, but there are suspicions that it is all part of Apple’s strategy. We already knew that the app was already made and was in the approval stage, but ITProPortal believes that they are delaying it for certain reasons. They suggest that Apple is slowing things down because of previous grievances with Google — but is that not hurting the user?

Google+ is something that users want, as they wish to see what all the fuss is about, and it is a sure bet that millions of iPhone owners would like to access the new social network via an app. We are not suggesting that anything untoward is going on, as Apple might be having a few issues with the Google+ app for iOS, but it does get you thinking.

We recently discussed how the appeal of Google+ could help increase sales of Android devices. Apple really needs to keep a close eye on this one, and make certain that they do not shoot themselves in the foot. If they do not accept the app, then those signed up to the new Facebook and Twitter rival may jump the iPhone ship and head to Android — a prospect that we do not want to see.

Apple has always been about offering apps that are secure, so why have Facebook and not Google+? Over the years we have seen a number of security issues with Facebook, but we cannot imagine the same happening with Google. Yes they have had their issues in the past, but they are in the software business, and will stop at nothing to offer the most secure service that they possible can.

Come on Apple, the people want it, 10 million users cannot be wrong, and that figure is all set to increase to 20 million by the weekend. If you are all about the people, it’s time to step up.
