If you thought your cars were safe from the Apple and Google war, then you would be mistaken, as according to a new rumor Google might want in on the CarPlay market. We are not sure if this is a good or bad thing, but only time will tell, if this rumor is to be trusted that is.
It looks as though we are set for a huge showdown, as Google could be about to launch its CarPlay alternative at the Google I/O conference, which starts on June 25th.
According to the rumor, the system is to be called Google Auto Link and will have partnerships with Audi, General Motors, Honda, Hyundai and NVIDIA, which forms part of the Open Automotive Alliance.
We were always going to see other Apple CarPlay alternatives, but we never thought we would see one so soon from Google. Let’s hope they do not try to keep tabs on drivers as they do when we surf the Internet with Google Search.
It will be interesting to see if this will be a half-baked version of CarPlay, and if the whole idea of Google Android installed within a car will be any good or not. Our guess is not, but you never know.
