Google Glasses release within 30 days for developers

Earlier on this week we shared a very useful infographic with you, giving you a clear picture of the technology and features that are powering Google’s innovative Glasses product. Now, we have a much needed release update for those you who have already put down $1500 for the luxury of owning a developer version of the Glasses.

If you have been keeping an eye on updates for the elusive product, you’ll know that Google hasn’t said a lot about their upcoming Glasses, only that they will be ready for developer release soon. We have seen a few sightings in the wild of the new tech in the media, but nothing else apart from that.

Now, we have some official news from Google at last, as the company has told TechCrunch that the first batch of Google Glasses will ship to developers ‘within a month’. Google were speaking at the recent Glass Collective event when they revealed the status update, although obviously the company were still unwilling to commit to an actual shipping date just yet.

We imagine that Google are still putting the finishing touches on their wearable Glasses, as the worst thing they could do is release the sets with major functionality not working – especially for such a high profile launch and after the hype these sets of glasses have received throughout the last few months.

The 30 day time frame now fits in perfectly with the company’s upcoming Google I/O conference, which will take place between May 15 and May 17. That means ideally, developers will already have their Glasses at hand when Google take to the stage to give their final demonstration of the product, before releasing it to the public later on in the year.

If developers have paid $1500 for an early taster of the glasses though, what is going to be the final price for consumers when it lands on the Google Play Store? More importantly, how much would you be willing to pay for a set? We just pray that when they finally do become available to buy, the Play Store will be better equipped to deal with the inevitable high demand – unlike what we saw with the Nexus 4 saga.
