Google Glass release date rival from Microsoft

Just when you thought that Google had the wearable eyewear tech market all to themselves, it appears that Microsoft may be looking to spoil their party with a surprise project. Strong whispers are now emerging that Microsoft is planning a rival product to directly compete with Google Glass.

As most of you are well aware, some lucky consumers are already testing the device today, thanks to Google’s early, but expensive Google Glass Explorer Edition program. While the rest of us wait for the magical release date to arrive sometime next year, it looks like Microsoft may be planning to offer an alternative in the near future.

The Wall Street Journal is actually treating this as fact. A new report by the publication confirms that Microsoft are now officially testing various prototypes, asking manufacturers in China to supply them with camera components that are purposely for eyewear prototypes.

With Microsoft basically coming out of nowhere to have a wearable eyewear product that is ready for testing, does this pave the way for other big electronics companies to follow suit? Apple and Samsung must be taking keen interest in this venture from Microsoft and we wouldn’t be surprised if they are planning similar moves behind the scenes.

You didn’t think Google would have this space to themselves did you? It’s also worth pointing out that Microsoft could call on the assistance of Nokia too, following the recent $7 billion acquisition. Either way, it’s also good to have alternatives for the consumer.

Give us your reaction on Microsoft potentially bringing out their version of Google Glass – would you buy it or not?
