Google Chrome OS (Chromium): Could Launch In November

While I was browsing ‘Google New‘ over the weekend, I tried to find out some information about Google’s new Chrome OS (Chromium to some) to no avail. It’s then I started digging and found out that the new OS could be set for a release as early as next month.

According to an article at TechCrunch, it seems as though the developers had recently hit RC status (Release Candidate) with version 0.9.78.1.

That is one clue, but only one piece of the puzzle. The other piece can be found via a discussion thread where a Google employee states that “we will push this after November 11,” referring to a release date.

During 2009 when Google announced Chrome, we were at a point when we were screaming for something new, something that worked. Google Chrome OS was born but now over a year later is Chrome still relevant? Potentially all it is, is a modified web browser.

Intended for notebooks for the time being, can you see yourself using a Chrome OS or Chromium based notebook over Windows 7, or your Macbook?

In all honesty, I think Chrome has a chance to shine but it will take some time to get to the status it needs to be at. Keep building them apps in the app store and the future for Google Chrome OS could be an evolution.
