These days social networking strategies can make a huge difference to a business’ success, in recent times we have seen Twitter and Facebook utilized heavily, therefore people are probably wondering what Google has in store for us when they launch business profiles for Google+. A recent article posted on VentureBeat has told us lots about the upcoming business accounts and it has to be said things sound promising.
According to VentureBeat’s article Google+ business profiles will be specifically tweaked for their intended purpose, therefore when compared to personal accounts you will get analytics and sophisticated sharing options, which we think sounds very promising. We are also told that shares will be subtle and this should enhance conversation, sadly no further details were revealed regarding this.
If you are currently using a personal account to represent your business you may want to hold your horses as Google has confirmed that there will be no way of migrating a personal account to a business profile, therefore you should probably away until Q3 2011 when business profiles will go live. No official launch date for business profiles has been confirmed, however a Google spokesperson has said “There will be a product very soon that has businesses’ interests in mind… We want to give them the features businesses expect and the features that can improve the sharing experience both for consumers and businesses.”
We can also confirm that Google+’s original plan was to test business profiles on a limited basis and prohibit commercial entities, however since then Google’s social chief, Vic Gundotra, admitted that this approach was a mistake. You may have noticed that Ford, Sesame Street and Mashable did have Google+ accounts, now these are personal accounts where company founders / representatives face the account instead of the business itself. You can see an example of this here, as you can see instead of the account being called ‘Mashable’ it now links to the CEO & Founder of Mashable, Pete Cashmore.
To be honest with you we like the approach Google has taken, it promotes people sharing content which people want to see rather than spamming everyone with everything, we think that circles still play a massive role, but we are also intrigued as to what “sophisticated sharing options” business profiles will get.
What features do you think Google should bring to Google+ business profiles?
