Google Android overtakes Windows Mobile: Soon to Overtake Apple iOS?

It would be an understatement to say that 2010 has been a great year for Google Android, this has recently been backed up by ComScore’s latest numbers, which suggest that it is now the third most utilized mobile OS out there.

Prior to these figures Microsoft’s Windows Mobile OS was ranked third, however they have now slipped to fourth. In first place is RIM who have a 39.3% share of the market and in second place is Apple who have a 23.8% share.

Previous figures from earlier this year showed that Android had a share of 12%, however now this figure has reach 17% thanks to a lot of new devices such a the HTC Desire, HTC Legend, Motorola Droid X, Droid Incredible and Droid 2.

At the moment there are a lot of other mobile operating systems hoping to affect the market, such as MeeGo, Symbian^3 and Windows Phone 7, therefore it will be interesting to what these figures are like in 6 months time.

Some experts are predicting that Android will soon overtake iOS, I must say this does look increasingly likely, especially with recently revealed handsets such as the HTC Desire HD and Desire Z soon to launch.

Do you think Android will overtake iOS within 6 months time?
