Google Android Market Share Increase: RIM and Apple decline

Google Android has been slowly taking over the smartphone market — when the mobile OS first took off the likes of RIM and Apple did not think that their dominance would ever be contested. However, the latest comScore shows that Android has made the most gain over the past three months ending May 2010.

Thomas Ricker from Engadget has studied the news release from PR Newswire and found that Google Android has increased by 4 percent compared to most of the other mobile operating systems losing ground. This will certainly come as good news to Android fans and the likes of the Motorola Droid, HTC Incredible and EVO 4G have all played their part. Well, we say EVO 4G, but this handset will not make that much difference in market share until the next three-month result get published.

I am an iPhone 4 owner and although I do not want to take sides — Apple will certainly lose ground to Google Android, as it is a numbers game. Apple only ever launch a new smartphone once a year, with Android, RIM and others launching dozens of new handsets each year.

Verizon customers hope and pray that Apple will study these latest scores and will be incensed that RIM are gaining while they are falling — and seriously consider a Big red version of the iPhone.
