Google has announced the acquisition of Nest, a company that deals in home automation. The purchase is thought to be in the region of $3 billion and will see Google begin a mission to make our homes smart in many different ways.
Nest is already a fully fledged company with products on the shelf, this is by no means a start up buy out. Home appliances such as thermostats and smoke alarms are the specialty of nest, the smart part is the ability to control the different settings from your devices wirelessly.
Not only can you turn systems on and off or change temperatures, you can also use the Nest devices to make your home more green and save you money on bills in the long run. The smart appliances can also be controlled via voice or hand gesture, which sure beats waving the oven gloves at the smoke alarm when it goes off.
Google will want to put the app into appliance and integrate their Android software and other systems into many of our every day technologies such as the fridge and washing machine. The smart home revolution has already begun, with a range of different devices on the market already which can control your crib.
The goal is to be able to monitor every single element of your home whether you are there or not, using your smartphone as the controls. Is Google up to the challenge of creating this futuristic environment? Let us know if you will buy any products Google and Nest work on together.
