Google Acquire Slide: Their Answer to Facebook / Twitter?

Google has recently revealed that they have acquired the social-gaming company Slide Inc, no doubt they will be looking at ways of using Slide’s developments to compete with Facebook and Twitter.

Apparently the acquisition cost Google around $200 million, however this is unconfirmed as the agreement is private, apparently Google will use Slide’s expertise to make their service more socially aware.

Google’s Engineering Director had this to say on the deal “For Google, the Web is about people, and we’re working to develop open, transparent and interesting (and fun!) ways to allow our users to take full advantage of how technology can bring them closer to friends and family”.

If you are unfamiliar with Slide’s products they are responsible for Facebook plugins such as SuperPoke! Pets, SPP Ranch, SuperPoke!, Top Friends and FunSpace.

So what do you make of this news? Do you think Google acquiring Slide will bring a better social networking aspect to Google’s endless list of products and services?
