If you were expecting to see a fourth God of War sequel sometime this year, you may be set for a disappointment. Fresh information has emerged suggesting that Sony will now make this one of their 2013 PS3 exclusives.
After initial leaks on the game, we were under the assumption that God of War IV would release sometime in 2012, but a new retailer listing actually puts the game down for a 2013 release in February instead. That retailer in question is BT Games, a South African retailer that also apparently dished the details first about Mass Effect 3 having a multiplayer mode, as noted by Joystiq.
The listing is still live now and hasn’t been removed by BT Games yet, which is interesting given the recent news that Activision were quick to force Amazon France to pull their listing for Black Ops 2. Perhaps Sony don’t really mind too much if the realization of a new God of War game is public knowledge – nice to see.
Although we were expecting the game to come out towards the end of 2012, we still believe that Sony will officially unveil the game at E3 2012 as one of their main eventers. It’s always good to see developers take their time on games and not rush out a release so most of you may actually be pleased that the game may be coming out in 2013 instead.
Will it contain a multiplayer mode though for the first time? At the start of the year we told you about the possibility of God of War IV featuring some kind of online co-op mode which may or may not include a playable Deimos – the brother of Kratos. We’re not sure how Sony plan to implement this if true, but there’s no doubt that an online multiplayer mode of some sort will add some much needed variety to what has traditionally been a single-player game only.
God of War is one of the standout franchises in the hack and slash genre and we would agree that the next game really needs to introduce something fresh to avoid potential criticisms from gamers who are worried that the game will just be similar to God of War III but with a new story mode.
Are you a big God of War fan? If so, tell us what you would like to see in a fourth game in order to secure your purchase.
