The Gmail login is used as a main email for millions of people everyday, but the service lacks a few features that can be added thanks to plugins. One such option called Streak allows for tracking email after you install the Google Chrome extension, so today we wanted to take a closer look at this enhancement.
After you pass the Gmail login page and start to create an email with the Streak extension installed, you will see new options below the text box like you can see in the screenshot below. By default, all emails will be tracked unless you turn off tracking with a one-click option below the text box.
It is worth noting that until last month you couldn’t track if an email had been opened with Streak, although since the first half of February this ability has now been added. This feature is ideal if you want to contact certain people the moment they’ve read your email, or in other situations by just clicking the “Recently Viewed” tab in Gmail with Streak.
Review with a Gmail login featuring Streak email tracking – following on from our earlier look at these real-time notifications, we have now embedded a quick hands-on video below this article for those of you unsure whether to install Streak, or at the very least the Product Reviews readers that want a quick visual look at the UI in action.
The 2-minute video reveals the simple process of creating an email in Gmail, then tracking read emails using the Streak extension. The review takes a closer look at the options available to quickly see what emails have been read, or how to turn off the tracking on an email-by-email basis.
Getting started with Streak is pretty easy, you just need to visit this page on streak.com and look for the “Install Streak for Email Tracking” button. The option will be turned on by default, although you can disable the tracking by default by configuring this setting.
Apple iPhone users can download the Streak CRM for Gmail app on iTunes, which last updated at the start of this year with bug fixes.
How would you change the Gmail login, email features and user interface? Do you think Google should add tracking by default without the need for plugins?
It would be interesting to hear your comments if you’ve used Streak, so let us know what you think about this extension below.
