Get a Planetarium on Your iDevice: Cosmic 1.0

An application which is a real-time planetarium as well as a comprehensive sky atlas has recently been released. Cosmic 1.0 is available for owners of the iPhone, iPad, and iPod Touch.

Released by Softmatic the application can display over 100,000 stars with detailed background information. There are also thousands of deep sky objects and our solar system bodies, and the option of star chart printing. All this makes the app a highly useful tool for beginners and seasoned star gazers alike.

Using the latest OpenGL ES technology, the app will totally immerse the user with a fluid and responsive interface. The stars are detailed with information on spectral class, distance and magnitude. The catalogs from Messier and NGC with almost 7,000 sky objects are also available. These can be searched and located by their common name.

Detailed information like rise and set times, physical properties and location are included for each selected object. With iOS 4.2 or later users can print detailed star charts or reference cards to any Air Print enabled printer.
