Gears of War 3: Brighter Maps, DLC and Special Unlocks

Gears of War 3 will undoubtedly be one of the most popular releases in 2011, therefore we thought a lot of our readers would appreciate some more information regarding the game, today we have some information regarding the mutliplayer maps, DLC and special unlocks.

Let’s start with the maps, according to JoyStiq GoW 3’s senior gameplay designer recently stated that the most-played maps on Gears of War 2 were bright, to cut a long story short the darker the map the less it was played, therefore GoW 3 features a new lighting model which allows developers to create even brighter maps, also dark maps will use blues instead of blacks to keep things less dreary.

It looks as if Epic Games will also mix up how they bring DLC to GoW 3 gamers, when Epci released GoW 2 16-digit codes came with new copies of the game, however a lot of people didn’t bother to claim their free Flashback map pack, perhaps we will see a map pack release a month or so after the game comes out.

Epic Games’ Cliff Bleszinski has also leaked some information regarding some Gears of War 3 “special unlocks”, you can see a tweet below, details are understandably scarce, however it seems as if Shadow Complex, Unreal Tournament 3, Gears, and Bulletstorm gamers will receive unlockable content, whilst other gamers will have to unlock this content by perhaps completing missions and earning particular achievements.

So there you have it guys, GoW 3 will feature less dark and dingy environments, no DLC codes in the retail packaging and also special unlocks for loyal Epic Games customers.

What do you make of all of this news? Did you want brighter maps? Did you want free DLC upon purchasing GoW 3? What “special unlocks” do you expect? Let us know in the comments section below.
