Gamers report problems on PS3 Firmware update 3.65

A few days ago, we informed you that sony had issued an low-key firmware update for the PS3, which was an optional download for gamers. However, a few days on and we have received numerous complaints that the PS3 update 3.65 is causing some freezing problems on certain software titles.

Let us point out straight away, that this only appears to be affecting a select number of PS3 owners, and definitely does not seem to be widespread at the moment. We’ve also had feedback from users stating that their PS3 system is fine after the 3.65 update, but just so you’re aware, here are a few problems that we’re hearing.

Specific titles that have been mentioned are Resistance 1&2, FIFA 11, Assassin’s Creed Brotherhood and also various Blu-Ray movies. We’ve been warned about slow downs whilst navigating through the XMB, while some gamers are also experiencing ‘5 second freezes’ during play, some of which require a hard reset of the PS3.

Obviously the situation is still developing, but if PS3 update 3.65 is indeed causing slow down problems and game freezes then it’s our duty to let you know about it. If you have installed the optional firmware update, let us know how your PS3 is handling at the moment.

Can any of you confirm the issues or is your system running fine?

it killed my laser! this is the second time a firmware update has done this. i install it, and immediately after it won’t play any blu-ray or games. cd’s work fine. stupid. tired of shelling out money for this. i have the old 40 gb model.

since the 3.61 update (and I’ve continued to update through 3.65), my PS3 will recognize and play PS1 games, PS2 games, and DVDs.  It even recognizes XBox games and tells me that if I want to play it, “put it in an Xbox console”, but it fails to recognize Blu Ray discs and PS3 games.  I’m stumped… are there two lazers in this thing?

Since I’ve updated my PS3 to fw 3.65 I won’t play any disks (DVD, CD, Blue Ray, Games etc.). I’ve tried all options PSN has told me to try in order to solve the problem (restore default, restore system, perform a new update etc.) but nothing worked. Since updating to fw 3.65 is optional to some players, Sony should have made available a downgrade option. Now I’m waiting for the next update and hoping it will solve my PS3’s problem.

Played Little Big Planet 2 and if it loads to the worlds then i am able to play the levels fine, everytime you hang around in the Pod though it turns the playstation off. Everytime without fail. That is on my partners old 60 gb and my new slim 320 gb. I’ve heard a few other games being affected too. My LA noire game does not work on the old 60 gb model. It doesnt even load up. It turns off all the time but on the slim 320 gb with same firmware it works fine……really strange sony

after updating to 3.65, my GT5 (v1.10) refuse to load after the start up screen. it stays at a blank black screen. hdd is active but showing very fast blinking of faint light. doesn’t get anywhere even after an hour. the system doesn’t freeze and i can go to XMB screen with the PS button.

so far no problem with other games like BlackOps, etc. no freezings too.

my ps3 slim kept freezing, so i tried a reformat, only to watch the ps3 die.

Experiencing a problem with Gran Turismo 5.  Tried to play with another player today but a second, third party controller that I use that I know works with other games causes input lag in steering the player’s car.

While I do admit that I updated the game software to 1.10 before I updated the PS3 software, which is a mandatory update, I do feel that 3.65 is a factor in causing this problem.  Am I wrong?

I finally updated my 40gb phat from its off the shelf firmware to 3.65. Needless to say it hasn’t had much gaming love, and sadly i’ve recently been entertaining myself with NBA Live 2008. Whilst the PS3 interface itself runs smoothly on 3.65, NBA Live 2008 now stutters during game play. I’m not surprised because I read the reports about old machines and the problems the new firmware has apparently been causing. Will be interested to see how crap it now runs when i play a newer game, but I have become a first hand believer that the PS3 updates… Read more »

i havent’t really had any problems with the update because i just found it a moment ago.  in the midst of downloading now; however before this download i was having trouble with a certain game, DC Universe Online, where it would freeze every so often but maybe once every few weeks.  today tho, it froze 4 times on me before the update and had to do a hard restart.  what is up with this? is it the game or is it the system cant handle the processor speed required?

Carl

i’ve had 2 PS3’s YLOD on me only hours after updating to 3.65. The system told me I had to run an update to be able to login to PSN. I’m annoyed beyond belief…

It’s probably old news, many of the launch PS3s are dead because they couldn’t handle the newer update content–the same reason why the 80GB fat n’ shinys are going now. The PS3 slims have slightly different hardware that fixes failsafes like this from happening.

well i just finish it play dead nation got from the welcome back and its blue all the colors became blue i restart it and its ok for now no freezing for me
