We have some great news now for those of you that have the GameFly video game rental application downloaded onto their iOS device, as we’ve just learned that the iOS app has recently been updated. The new update has added social networking capabilities to the popular app.
As Philip Michaels over at pcworld.com recently noted, the added social networking capabilities are aimed towards helping gamers connect with each other. Users will now be able to create profile pages for themselves, as well as browse through profiles of other GameFly users.
The GameFly application’s Activity Tab will enable users to post comments about certain games, and respond to other gamers’ posts. The updated app (version 2.0) will enable GameFly users to find new people that they can then challenge via the Wii, Xbox Live or the PlayStation Network.
GameFly 2.0 — which is free to download from the Apple App Store – also adapts the Twitter-style feature of being able to follow other users. If you’re not familiar with GameFly, it’s a service similar to Netflix but for video games. Members are able to rent games, which then arrive through the mail.
Members of the service can then keep the rented game for as long as they like. The GameFly application also enables subscribers to look up news and information on video games, watch trailers and even manage their rental queues direct from their iPhone, iPod Touch or iPad.
