Galaxy Tab 3 Garnet Red exclusive to US

Just when we thought that Samsung may abandon the Galaxy Tab 3 to focus on the imminent Galaxy Tab 3 Lite, the company has once again sprung a surprise. US consumers are now going to be treated to a special edition of the Galaxy Tab 3 – coming in a lovely Garnet Red color.

It was only a few days ago when we told you that the Galaxy Tab 3 Lite was due to launch. We also gave you a heads-up on how the Galaxy Tab 3 Lite compared against other tablets, such as the powerful and still very popular Nexus 7 2013, but also a UK favorite with the Tesco Hudl.

Now, Samsung fans in the US will get a special version of the Galaxy Tab 3 that won’t be available anywhere else. The company has just confirmed that the Garnet Red Galaxy Tab 3 release date will be February 2 and that it will have a price of $199.99 at retailers.

Specs will remain the same though, meaning that you are getting a 7-inch low-range tablet with a dual-core 1.2Ghz processor, 1GB of RAM, a 3MP rear camera and a 1.3MP front camera for web chats. There’s only 8GB of internal memory, but there is an option to increase this with MicroSD card.

Unfortunately though, this still ships with Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean. For a new product release, shipping this with Android 4.4 Kitkat would have been nice – especially considering that the Galaxy Tab 3 may be deemed rather ancient by today’s tablet demands.

Having said that, this is a lovely shade of red so we imagine that this will still appeal to a lot of you for just $199.99.

Are you interested in revisiting the Galaxy Tab 3, or do you think it’s a case of ‘Nice try, Samsung’?
