Now that we have had the long awaited announcement of the Galaxy Nexus smartphone, comparisons are obviously going to made on how it fairs up against Apple’s recently announced device, the iPhone 4S. After seeing Google unveil their device – which device takes your preference?
Both smartphones carry impressive hardware specifications for sure, and also features which make each device unique. The iPhone 4S will become a big hit thanks to their innovative new Siri voice features, while the Galaxy Nexus will be the first device to run on Ice Cream Sandwich 4.0 and will have a nifty feature called Face Unlock allowing users to unlock the device using facial recognition only – although we didn’t see this on stage yet.
Ultimately though, the decision is likely to come down to which OS you like using best and iOS 5 and Ice Cream Sandwich are easily the two most exciting operating systems on the market today, although Microsoft, RIM and HP won’t like hearing this, but it is true.
Google announced another nice feature for Ice Cream Sandwich at their event a few hours ago, called Android Beam. The handset will utilize NFC technology to let users share information instantly between phones, just by touching the backs of each device together. It looked very impressive on stage, particularly the moment where one Galaxy Nexus had Minecraft running and after touching the other device using Android Beam, it brought up a page instantly to download Minecraft on the other device – that was very slick you would have to agree.
You can’t ignore the slight criticisms either as we know a lot of you will be disappointed that the Galaxy Nexus will only come with a 5 megapixel camera with LED flash. The iPhone 4S on the other hand will come with a brand new 8 megapixel sensor and allow pictures to be taken in 1.1 seconds using a new image signal processor.
