The Samsung Galaxy Nexus has been available to users in the UK for almost two weeks now, and consumers that have already taken the plunge with the handset were met with a volume fault. After a few days Google admitted the problem and promised to release an update to correct matters. Now we can tell you that the Samsung Galaxy Nexus volume bug fix is now being released by Samsung.
The fix was previously leaked early for the handset, but as Electronista are reporting it is now being made available officially. Google confirmed the news via a statement that owners of the HSPA+ version that are mainly based in Europe will be getting the update over the air.
It is rolling out to handsets now and should be complete within a week, while the CDMA version doesn’t need any update. Some owners who were affected by the problem found that the volume can suddenly decrease significantly, and even lock afterwards. This has then meant owners have had to reboot the smartphone to get the volume to work correctly.
Investigations in to the problem discovered a problem with interference with the 900MHz GSM frequency. Samsung also confirmed the fix by saying “We’re currently rolling out a fix for the volume issue which will reach everyone in the coming week”.
It is hoped the handset will be arriving in the US and Canada on December 8th and the problem won’t affect handsets in these regions. We told you only yesterday that some UK retailers were now receiving new stock that had been updated ready for shipping.
