We have some good news for those of you with a Galaxy Nexus on Verizon. If you have a rooted handset, it looks like an unofficial update to the latest version of Ice Cream Sandwich is now available – that being Android 4.0.4.
There’s no official update yet as you may have guessed, with the community now in a state where unofficial updates land a lot quicker before even manufacturers and carriers manage to push out official updates.
Whether the fact that this update to Android 4.0.4 is now available online is a sign of an imminent official update remains to be seen, but since many of you prefer to root your Android handset at the earliest opportunity, we suggest you take advantage of this while you can – for good reasons.
A report over at Droid-Life claims that this update may improve on 4G LTE signal performance. This is pretty huge for current owners as many of you may have a few grunts about far from pleasing signal bars, which only display 1 or 2 bars despite being in a fully supported area. According to the site, an extra one bar of signal was noticeable after installing the update to 4.0.4, so if you are currently experiencing poor 4G signal and have a rooted handset, there’s no reason to not give this a try.
Judging by feedback we’re read from those who have installed the update, it does look promising indeed with many saying that their signal had now been boosted after updating. One word of caution that you need to be aware of before attempting to install is that you’ll need to be running stock Android 4.0.2 otherwise this will not work.
