The past few days have been all about the PS4, but then again this was to be expected seeing as though people in the US will finally be able to get their hands on the next-gen console from midnight. If you are all for the Xbox One, then you will take comfort in the fact that there have been reports of PlayStation 4 consoles crashing, and also the fact that they do not currently support 3D Blu-ray playback.
Anyway, back to the Xbox One, which is the reason you have landed on this page. Microsoft is to bring its Games with Gold initiative from the 360 to the Xbox One. However, the service will not be rolled out at launch or a few weeks after, but rather some time in 2014.
From what we know the initiative will work the same as it does now, so you will be able to receive free Xbox One games, but only if you are members of Xbox Live Gold. Microsoft’s Larry Hryb has said on Twitter that they will release more details on this later in 2014.
This will mean that from later next year you will be entitled to two free Xbox One games per month and if it runs the same as the current incentive, then you have access to the free games for life, even if your Xbox Live Gold subscription ends.
It is the hope that once the Games with Gold shifts over to the Xbox One later next year newer and better games will be added to the library of free games. The ones currently available are several years old now, and so would need to be developed for the Xbox One in order for gamers to get benefit from the new console and service.
