It seems as though owners of Ford vehicles affected by the latest round of recalls are not happy, and for good reason, as the Ford recall list is extensive. There are three separate issues in all, with the largest affecting 465,000 vehicles, and the other two only affecting 500 and 23 units, which is a very low number indeed.
These latest round of Ford recalls is nothing to do with the recent Ford F-150 problems, as that can take months or even a year to find a resolution. The List of models affected by these latest recalls is as follows: The 2013 Ford Taurus, Fusion, Flex and Explorer, as well as the Lincoln MKZ, MKT MKS and the Police Interceptor sedan.
The reason is because there have been 600 complaints because of fuel leaks, which as you would suspect could cause a fire. There are cases where some owners have smelt fuel, which isn’t a good sign, and you could see the fuel leaking on the ground. It’s for this reason why Ford has had to issue this recall, affecting 465,000 vehicles in the process.
That’s not the only issue for the 2013 Lincoln MKZ, as there is a separate recall because of an issue with their engine block heaters because the insulation on its electrical system could crack in cold temperatures. Only 500 vehicles will be recalled because of this issue.
Finally, the 2013 Ford Fusion is having to be recalled because of an issue with its steering, as in rare cases the steering could be lost or impaired. Thankfully, only 23 models are affected.
It’s understandable that Ford owners are very upset with these latest round of recalls, and will find it hard to believe that Ford is rethinking their launch strategy. Detroit News reports that Ford has said that they will need to look more closely at their new launch vehicles to make certain that the process is smooth and that they do not run into any issues like these again.
While it’s clear that Ford is trying to reassure their customers, some will say that it is too little too late, and that they will now consider alternative brands. However, most of them have had recall issues, more so with some of the big Japanese brands.
