Ford EcoSport US release considered, subject to demand

The Ford EcoSport has been growing in popularity because of it being developed for developing markets, such as Brazil, but more importantly China. However, as of yet the Ford EcoSport has eluded the US, but maybe there is still hope for those in North America who would like to get their hands on this small, cheap crossover.

Ford has said that they are not ready to release the EcoSport in the US just yet, but Jim Farley, Ford’s head of global sales has said that they are studying the market carefully, and if they feel there is a need for the Ford EcoSport in the US, then they will consider it in the future.

This does seem like a positive step, but don’t expect a 2013 Ford EcoSport US release, and 2014 could also be touch and go, but who knows? However, we have to wonder how the American market will react to such a vehicle?

The Ford EcoSport is based on the Fiesta, and some people who have seen the vehicle in person will say that it’s nice to have a CUV that fills the gap for those who cannot afford or find the Escape too large. However, others will tell you that the vehicle is ugly to look at in person, and if it was to come to the US, then they will need to get rid of the 1.0-liter engine and also offer a diesel alternative to help achieve at least 50 mpg or more.

Having said that, the 1.0-liter engine offers far more than you think, because it is an EcoBoost, meaning the three-cylinder engine can produce 118 horsepower, and so could be a popular choice with a growing market in the US.

In a recent poll 64 percent of people said they would love to see the Ford EcoSport release in the US, while 24 percent said no and the reaming voters were uncertain.
