Food makers and Trillion Calories: Companies Cut Back

It has been reported that several of the world’s biggest food companies have agreed to cut back on calories, by taking as much as 1.5 trillion calories out of their products by 2015.

As reported from Boston, the move is due to an effort to stop the growing problem of childhood obesity, a common issue in the U.S.

According to Michelle Obama, the companies made the announcement to cut back on calories through the Healthy Weight Commitment Foundation, which consists of several food and beverage trade associations.

The First Lady had this to say on the news: “This is precisely the kind of private sector commitment we need.’’

Food and drink companies will now work hard to achieve a cut back of 1 trillion food calories by the time 2012 lands.

Meanwhile, Michelle Obama urged food companies to be creative when marketing products as healthy, with the main aim to reduce fats by replacing them with sugar.
