First tri-SIM phones from LG and GooPhone

The advances made with smartphones has accumulated in plenty of benefits aimed at the consumer and many owners of dual-SIM phones will appreciate how handy they are when it comes to international travel and prepaid service. With that in mind, some may feel that this is still not sufficient for their needs and this is where LG and GooPhone have come up with the first range of tri-SIM phones based on a new MediaTek Triple-SIM chip.

In a report on Engadget they discuss leaked details about both the GooPhone X1+ and a just-shipped variant of the Optimus L4 II, which can make use of three phone lines without draining too much of the battery-life.

According to their report neither of these models are high-end products, with the GooPhone X1+ expected to contain a 5-inch FWVGA display along with a dual-core MT6572 processor. Additionally, the Optimus L4 II is said to sport a 3.8-inch HVGA screen as well as an unnamed 1GHz chip.

Taking the specifications into consideration, these devices seem like the ideal smartphones for those who would rather refrain from swapping SIMS when crossing borders. The LG version is now on sale in Brazil, while we expect the GooPhone X1+ will ship to numerous countries within the next few days.

Do you feel tri-SIM phones are handy devices for the constant traveller to escape roaming charges? Have you experienced any issues with some dual-SIM solutions?
